Leaving for Oklahoma

Monday, September 1st, 2008

If everything goes according to plan, I will be leaving for Oklahoma on September 12, 2008. I’ll be moving to fill a one-year volunteer position for Voice of the Martyrs [persecution.com]. I’ll be working on computer-related projects.

I will be bunking with one other person in an 800 square foot, two bedroom, six bed house. There is the chance that all or some of the other beds will be filled from time to time, but nothing permanent. I have to pay for rent, food, and transportation (I’ll be biking). I’ve saved up enough money to keep me for a while, but I’ll eventually need to get a part-time job to help keep my savings up enough for a plane ticket back to Michigan.

That is, if I return to Michigan. There’s a slight chance that this could turn into something bigger. It might not, but this trip isn’t hinging on anything being permanent. Rather, I want to help out this missionary organization. After all, I’ve been doing my various side projects featured on this site and others to donate money to Voice of the Martyrs: now, I’m just donating time.

I plan on riding a bicycle year-round, considering the friendlier winters in Oklahoma (although I can carpool on days that are dangerous). The longest distance I’ll have to travel is five miles, which isn’t much of a trip on a bike.

I bought a used laptop to take with me, which will allow me to continue posting images here on this site and others. For the average reader of this site, little will change: I’ll just be posting in a different location. Unfortunately, my recently-upgraded PC won’t be going with me, considering its weight and size, which means my PC multiplayer gaming opportunities will be cut off. I’m planning on shipping my video game consoles and a few books to keep me sane (there’s a GameStop only a small distance from the house!). I do still plan on keeping up communication with the various communities that I am involved in currently, but it will only be as an observer.

This is something I’ve felt compelled to do for a while, but was too stubborn to attempt. So here goes!

Today’s Image is an edited picture of fall leaves from last year.

Because I’ll be leaving soon, we took our family photo early. The images are below. The first image in the list isn’t a part of the family photos: it is of a cousin of mine, with his son. Both fell asleep at the meal served after Grandpa’s funeral. How they did it is unknown to me, considering the cacophony in the hall where the meal was served.

well, I know you’ll miss me. Oh, I mean, I’ll miss you. You know, I’m glad you’re leaving after Grandpa died. It’s nice that you were here for the funeral and family time. We’ll be praying for you. I love the photo of Billy and Stephen. How perfectly adorable. Bill’s a nice looking guy-don’t know why he doesn’t like his phot taken. Talk to ya later.

Hoping everything is going well!
