Independence Day
Friday, July 7th, 2006
July 4 was spent with extended family over at my grandparent’s house. It was quite an interesting day. Because of the location, events and interactions proceeded differently than previous years. One drastic change was the amount of injuries reported. An uncle had to go to a hospital for emergency surgery to remove infection from his elbow; a cousin from the same family likely broke his nose in a basketball accident; and Tiffany got hit in the face by a golf ball launched by Samuel.
The day went pretty well for me, and other than the injuries, pretty well for everyone else. Some (including me) went to see a parade in a nearby town, which strangely enough, was larger than my current home city ever held. It seemed like the parade would never end. It had a quaint feel about it, something that a large city, no matter how hard it tried, could ever match. Even though I wasn’t a part of the citizenship, I still felt welcomed.
My cousin (known as Genghis on the forums) allowed me to fire one of his new rifles. I had a lot of fun. I think Carmella and Tiffany got pictures of it. I was too busy shooting and swatting at bugs (whose bites are still bothering me) to take any pictures by that time. Carmella may have some up at her site [carmshangout.com] by now, since she fired off some rounds as well.
Located below are a selection of photographs I took during the day. I figured I’d post them here instead of spitting them out one at a time as a “Today’s Image”. Besides, they’re not good enough for that.
Be aware, the first image (the panoramic stitch) is massive. I must have neglected to resize it. I’m too tired to do so now. Just be prepared for a little wait while it downloads. Please forgive the sloppy stitching. I was tired when I was merging the images, too.
