“Today’s Image” is of the Buffalo Bill Dam in Cody, Wyoming. It was taken with my Canon EOS 30D with attached Peleng 8mm f/3.5 fisheye. For those who snoop at what I have on my desktop [flagmandesign.com], this should look rather familiar, as I’ve had a variant of this image as my wallpaper for some time now. Regardless, enjoy.

I’ve been rather busy with assorted projects, but I’ve been able to get enough time to make another post to update the site.

The first of my two items of note is a list of photos I took for a local magazine/newspaper called “Suburban Lifestyles”. They requested their readers to submit photos of neighborhood fall foliage. I took several pictures and submitted them via the Web by emailing them a link to this page [dhpersonal.com]. Unfortunately, I did not win the prize of a front cover displaying of one of my images, but I was able to make it into the issue as a runner up (along with my sister Tiffany). I put the images in the Royalty Free area, as they are full-size and my laziness is too great to go back and resize everything.

Next up is a project I did for a coworker, where I was assigned to follow around and photograph her color guard team which she had been training for some time. The day I visited them marked a very important competition, where they took first place in their division.

I ended up taking close to nine hundred photos, as I was requested to take as many as possible to use in a mosaic. Not every photo was good – why I am telling anyone this? – but I thought there were several “keepers” (note: there are of said “keepers” than the images displayed below: I’m not that bad). Noise Ninja [picturecode.com] and Focus Magic [focusmagic.com] are great programs, by the way.

I learned a lot in this event. I was exhausted after this day of shooting, and was quite sore by the end of the day. I learned I should take ibuprofen on a full stomach, and not a nearly empty one. It took several days to get over that. I learned that Canon really does take some great better-than-Nikon-pictures at ISO 1600 (and yes, there are noticeable differences, Mr. Rockwell [kenrockwell.com]), and that I really need to get a fast zoom (well, any zoom, since I’m all primes at the moment) if I’m going to do any sports work in the future.

Because I didn’t obtain a model release for the color guard team, I felt it necessary to obscure the faces of the people in the images to protect their identity. I don’t think it detracts too much from the images.

For various reasons I see no need to discuss, the Color Guard images are not licensed under a “Creative Commons” license.
