Promised post: Samuel, the artist

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Back days ago, Samuel sat down and drew a picture of me. I was startled to see how similar it looked to my own face. I promised him I’d post his work on my blog, thinking I’d be able to quick make a post the same day. Unfortunately, I neglected to realize that I didn’t have a suitable image for “Today’s Image”, which meant I would have to wait until I could find something. Nearly every day Samuel asked me if I’d yet posted his picture, and it saddened me to keep telling him that I hadn’t yet done so.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. I kept taking pictures throughout the week, but none of them were all that great. I took pictures of flowers (which I posted below), pictures of a sunset (which I won’t bother posting), and many mental pictures that I crumpled up and tossed aside without even picking up my camera. I had big plans for today, too: I thought I’d go out to a local airstrip for radio-controlled planes, and take some pictures of the field surrounding the area. That was until I remembered I’d paid so much for gasoline these past few days, and really didn’t want to use a vehicle unless I had to do so (which is why I instead took the pictures of the flowers).

So, in desperation (why am I admitting this?) I looked through my archives and found a picture of my grandfather that I decided to “sentimentalize”, for lack of a better term. In the end, it was just a way to be able to make this post.

Another reason for making this post was to showcase a publication of a letter I sent to “Games for Windows”, the official magazine for, as the name suggests, gaming on Microsoft Windows. On a podcast (they have a podcast), the editor mentioned that the work done on the magazine got less response than the barely-prepared podcast. I would imagine it was due to this desperation that I was published. Apparently I’m less grammatically correct than I knew, as the brackets around “by” in the letter would suggest. This is, of course, something that will bother me as long as I remember my letter was in the magazine, which will likely be for years to come.

Oh, and I almost forgot: I’m upgrading my computer, and should receive the parts by this Friday. I’ve compiled the list of products I purchased, which is available here. [dhpersonal.com] It’s not at all near the fastest computer available, but I couldn’t afford that. Besides, I have to save up for Adobe Photoshop CS3 ($650) and Adobe Illustrator CS3 ($500), among other things.

Hey that’s awesome you got published med!! Good job! I really don’t understand the bracketing of “by,” it seems perfectly grammatical to me.

No, the bracketed word is their replacement. I wrote something else: I believe I wrote “with”, as in, “I’m surprised with the…”, which is incorrect, but seemed proper when I originally typed it.
